Victim of assault/domestic violence stuck with bills and needs advice. Thx so much.?

Back in May a a friend of mine was charged with domestic violence/assault after he was seen by several witnesses (including 3 third part witnesses who called the police) throwing me to the ground several times and hitting my head to the pavement. It definitely could have been worse but was still pretty gruesome. I guess I lost consciousness after the second time my head hit the pavement. I had several cuts, some of which I still have scars from, and was brought to the e.r. Anyway long story short I had a concussion, my medical bills added up to over $5,000 not to mention pain and suffering. I had to find a new apartment etc.
